The cover to Fest Comics No. 5, March, 1940. It was hand-produced on the comic book industry 11 x 17 illustration board and finished in the standard camera-ready process. The production incorporates pen-and-ink work, archival pigment printing, and physical cut-and-paste headings and text.
In 1939, Better Publications, Inc. introduced The Red Mask on Best Comics No. 1's pages. He was the first black costumed hero in comics history. The magazine was printed in a different format than the other books published at the time, being longer in width and shorter in height, resembling a classic newspaper Sunday Funnies strip. Unfortunately, the series only ran for four issues, and the original Red Mask was never seen in print again... until our, "Fest Comics" by "Butter Tublickstations Sink," parody title and company version, that is! The exclusive book's title splash page graphic is related to the front cover theme. The rest of the comic contains a "Tremendous Trio" origin story chronicling the creation of the Best Comics - Red Mask Alternate Comicverse set, plus our parodies of classic comic book ads and features. Please see The Book page for comic contents info.
Our Red Mask Alternate Comicverse card is No. 70 of a fictional series of 72 cards issued by our Gum, Inc. parody company, "Hum Sync." The series' setting is 1940, inspired by the Gum, Inc. classic Superman trading cards series of the same year.
